4 Reasons Sheer Curtains May Be the Right Choice for Your Living Room

If you’re considering all the options for curtains in your living room and you’re just not sure is right, then Half Price Drapes invites you to consider these four reasons that sheer curtains may be the right choice. Read on to learn all about it and then shop our many options.

1. Sheer curtains allow you to take advantage of views

Do you have a beautiful view out your living room windows that you don’t want to give up? Whether your windows are small or are floor-to-ceiling, sheers offer you the option to let sunlight peek into your home but don’t affect your privacy. You’re able to filter out the brightness you don’t want, get rid of glare on your television, and diffuse the light that comes in so you can see what you want to see outside without the disadvantages of natural light.

2. Sheer curtains are intimate

Look at the world through sheer curtains simply makes the world seem more beautiful and intimate. They give a gauzy, romantic feel to everything you see and are a great way to make your living room not just more intimate but more cozy and comfortable too.

3. Sheer curtains are practical

Do you have children in your home? Then you can get curtain hardware that is safe for your kids. We find that many parents are under the mistaken impression that curtains and families with kids or pets don’t mix. This may have been true in the past, but in today’s world there are many cordless options that are safe for people – and animals – of all ages and sizes.

4. There is an incredible variety of sheer curtain options

If you think of sheer curtains and only think of white, see-through fabrics then you’re in for a treat. At Half Price Drapes, you can choose from dozens and dozens of sheer curtains. In virtually any color, in patterns, and even with different textures, there are a huge variety of sheer options available to you.
Do you need some help deciding is sheer curtains are right for you, or which color of sheer will work best for you? Then we invite you to take advantage of our fabric swatch program. Simply put up to $10 worth of fabric swatches in your online shopping cart. When it comes time to check out, the only thing you’ll pay is a small shipping fee.

3 Ideas for Decorating a Large Living Room

living-room-makeover-single-purchase

In a lot of ways, having a living room that’s huge is a great problem to have. However, homeowners who’ve tried to decorate a huge space know just how challenging it can be. Read on to get some simple tips that could help you successfully decorate a large living room.

1. Create different zones

If you have a ton of room, start breaking the space up by creating different zones. Each one should have its own seating arrangement. This helps the space to feel both accessible and purposeful. One space can be the perfect spot to sit down and read a book, while another space may be perfect for inviting friends over for cocktails. As you create the zones, make sure you have a clear idea in mind of what you want it to do and then choose furniture, draperies, and lighting that fits those needs.

2. Add a conversation piece in each area

As we mentioned above, you’re looking to create spaces that will accommodate different uses. The best way to accomplish this is by buying furniture that meets different needs. Another way to clearly delineate the spaces is to have a conversation piece – otherwise known as a focal point – in each of your areas. For example, you might have a coffee table, dramatic draperies, or a piece of art that can handle a close look.

3. Focus on scale

As you’re choosing pieces for your huge living room, make sure that you’re taking scale into consideration. The scale of the furniture you choose should relate to the size of the room. You want the room to end up being balanced and ensure that the pieces you choose work well together. You don’t want one part of the room to feel too sparse or empty while the other side feels cluttered.
If you want the room to feel more intimate, choose heavy, dark colors and keep your scale oversized. This makes the room not just feel smaller but draws everyone in a room in together. If you want to accent the size of the room, decorate in bright whites and other light colors.

No matter how you choose to decorate your large living room, Half Price Drapes has draperies, throw pillows, and many other accessories. To learn more about your options, consider our free fabric swatch program. Just pick out up to $10 worth of our fabric swatches and pay only a small shipping fee to check out our fabrics in your own home.

A Return to the Classics: 3 Reasons White May Be the Perfect Color for Your Curtains

It’s common for people who are shopping for window treatments to start off assuming they need curtains with bright colors, fancy designs, or bold stripes. At Half Price Drapes, we’re proud to offer these and many other options. However, we also want to make sure that our customers are also considering one of the most often overlooked classics: White curtains. Here are three reasons we think they’re worth a second look.

1. They’re classic and will work with anything

If you want to invest in truly high quality curtains, then you want to know they’re going to be around for years. But what happens if you decide to redecorate next year? What if you get a new couch that doesn’t fit in with your bright, bold curtains? White curtains help prevent this problem. They look fresh and clean in any type of décor and they will last for years to come. White is classic for a reason: It never goes out of style.

2. They add coziness without getting in the way

Nothing makes you feel fresher and cozier than some sweet, light, white curtains slowly flowing in the breeze. That said, they also don’t get in the way. Other curtains may be cozy but they can clash against the window. If you have a beautiful view, then you very well may want curtains that will simply blend in because you want the view to be the focal point.

3. White curtains give you a lot of options

When you choose white curtains, you have a ton of options. It’s true that some people believe that once they’ve chosen white curtains their job is done, but the reality is far from that. There are actually a lot of fabric options, from cotton to silk to sheer. You can also choose between different shades of white, including your classic cotton, off-white, cream, and many others.
Finally, you’ll choose how your curtains will hang. You may want sleek, clean curtains that blend right in, or perhaps you want a more dramatic white curtain, like this layered ruffle sheer curtain. Some clients even choose shades in bright shades of white. The bottom line is that when you pick white, the sky is the limit!
At Half Price Drapes, we’re proud to offer a wide variety of options. Shop with us today to learn more about how to create your dream home.

Ready to Downsize? Decorating Tips to Make It Easy

If you’re ready to move to a smaller home or apartment then you’re likely aware of all the advantages. For example, it’ll be easier to clean and maintain, it likely costs less, and it can feel cozier. However, there are some challenges. One of the biggest issues we see for people moving from a large home to a smaller one is figuring out how to decorate. Half Price Drapes has brought you the best advice we have.

Paint all your walls the same color

In a small home, it’s all about flow. If you paint rooms different colors, then the overall décor will feel choppy and separate. It can actually make the room home look smaller. We recommend painting everything a neutral color and the bringing in pops of color via patterned window curtains or colorful accessories.

Bring what’s functional

As you go through and look at all the furniture, art, and accessories you have, start not by figuring out what you love the most, but what’s the most functional. The reality is that in a larger home, you can afford to have pieces that look great but don’t serve a purpose. In a smaller home, everything needs to have a function. For example, skip the foot stool and instead get an ottoman that has storage inside.

Give yourself a break

While we do recommend bringing what’s functional, we also want to ensure that you give yourself a break if you feel that you must bring something that you know isn’t needed. Do you have a bedspread for a king bed that you love, but know you’ll have to get a queen bed for your smaller space? Give yourself permission to bring one item for each room just because you love it.

Accessories are the perfect place to show your personality

Since you’ll need your furniture to be functional, you’ll want to show off your unique style and personality via your accessories. For example, get a couch that fits the space correctly and that’s a nice neutral color, but add some colorful couch cushions or pillows. Draperies are another way to instantly transform a space.
Remember that at Half Price Drapes, we not only offer an incredible selection of fabrics, styles, patterns, and more, but we also offer custom drapes. If you have a smaller space with uniquely shaped or sized windows, take advantage of this affordable option and get draperies tailored for your home.

4 Important Reasons Not to Skip Adding Window Treatments to Your Home

There are a lot of reasons that homeowners may decide not to add window treatments. They may think that they’re not as important as other design elements, or they may like the look of their windows without curtains. In some cases, they simply don’t want to lose the views they have. We are here today to share four essential reasons that most every room needs window treatments.

1. They add privacy

If you’re like most people, you don’t want strangers to be able to simply look right into your home. Too often, homeowners assume that if they’re on a hill or if they live in a condo on the 20th floor, that people can’t see into their homes. This simply isn’t true. Window curtains add the privacy you need to feel safe and secure in your own home.

2. Window treatments can protect the things you own

Installing high quality window treatments can help prevent your furniture and other accessories from fading. That’s right, UV rays can be blocked by the curtains, which means that you won’t have that pesky problem of your furniture fading as time goes on.

3. You can lower your utility bills

The Department of Energy has said that adding a variety of window treatments, including shades, curtains, and even awnings outside your home, can help you reduce how much heat is lost in the winter and how much heat is gained in the summer. The result? Lower energy bills month after month.

4. They’re a great way to show off your unique style

Do you want your home to reflect your unique personality? If you do, then window treatments should be an essential part of your decorating plans. You can choose the colors you love, designs you crave, and the perfect fabric, whether it’s gorgeous silk curtains, vintage inspired cotton velvet curtains, or streamlined cellular blinds, there are a seemingly endless number of ways you can decorate your windows that will showcase your unique style.

If you’re ready to learn more about the many advantages of window coverings, and to see these advantages at work in your own home, then we recommend you check out the huge selection at Half Price Drapes. We are here to help you find the perfect selection for every room in your home – at prices that you simply can’t believe.

Simple Tips to Help You Choose the Best Window Treatments for Your Home

Choosing the right window treatments for your home is fun but it can also be overwhelming. They are one of the most important decorating decisions you’ll make, but they’re not just an accessory – you also need to ensure that they serve their functions well, like offering privacy and light control. Half Price Drapes is always happy to help you find exactly what you’re looking for, or you can read on to learn some of the simplest tips to help you.

Start by familiarizing yourself with the options

First things first, take the time to get to know your options. Draperies, blinds, and shades are the best three options, but within those categories you’ll find hundreds of additional options. For example, shades can refer to Roman shades, cellular shades, or honeycomb shades, and each of those has even more options.

Think about your space

Depending on the size and style of your home, it may make more sense to invest in window treatments that are consistent in type, style, pattern, or fabric. In other cases, you may want to have each room be totally separate from the others. Remember too that you’re looking to ensure you get the light control and privacy you need in every individual room. For example, your needs for privacy won’t be the same in the living room as they are in the bedroom.

Shades vs. draperies

Even if you decide on shades, you may also want to add draperies above them. This can help to soften up the room and it can add some elegance and drama to your window treatment. Coordinate the fabrics, colors, and textures, to ensure that you’re creating a finished product that really looks like it works together.

What is your style – and what is the style of your home?

Of course, your individual style will have a lot to do with which window treatments you choose. If your home is modern and sleek, then you’ll likely want to choose window coverings that are modern and sleek too, while an historic, formal home may warrant heavy velvet draperies that hang from the ceiling to the floor.
Remember too that you can always order custom draperies from Half Price Drapes. We are here to ensure that your home looks incredible once your draperies are hung. Reach out to us today for help measuring or choosing your curtains.

4 Differences Between Curtains and Drapes

If you use the words “curtains” and “drapes” interchangeably, you’re not alone. In fact, here at Half Price Drapes we do it all the time. However, no matter how common it is for the words to give off the same meaning, the truth is that they’re not identical. Read on to learn about the differences between the two and then reach out to us for more information.

Draperies are lined curtain panels

The easiest way to think of draperies is to think about them as curtains that have lining in them. Draperies should typically be hung in pairs, though this will vary based on the size and type of window you have. In most cases, draperies are much heavier than curtains, and they can also have thermal linings or blackout linings to help darken rooms. Draperies are excellent for helping to reduce heating and cooling bills too.

Curtains also come in panels

Curtains and sheers generally come in panels too, but they’re made from much lighter fabrics. Since they are lighter and thinner, they are not going to filter out all of the light, and they won’t completely darken a room. In many cases, curtains and drapes are hung together. The homeowner can then pull back the drapes to allow some light in, but still have the privacy that curtains allow.

Then there are blinds

Now that you have a good handle on the difference between draperies and curtains, let’s move on to blinds. They are custom made to exactly fit the size of the window they’re installed in, and they hang inside the window frame. They don’t come down below the window sill at all. They can be made from a wide range of materials, including, metal, vinyl, wood, and other non-woven fabrics. They’re somewhat like shades, except for what they’re made of. Blinds come in vertical louver and horizontal louver.

The final option is shades

When you’re shopping for curtains and draperies, you’ll find options for shades too. They’re actually very similar to blinds except that they’re made from fabric. They can open by rolling around a rod, gathering together into pleats, or they can tie up. Half Price Drapes offers several cordless shade options, including cellular shades and Roman shades. Feel free to reach out to us if you need help measuring your windows for these or other window treatments.

Blackout Curtains Could Literally Change Your Life

https://www.halfpricedrapes.com/blackout-curtains.html
Blackout Curtains
When you read the title of this article you likely think that it’s a bit of an exaggeration. After all, blackout curtains are just curtains, right? Well, according to some studies – and many of our experiences with our customers – blackout curtains may be a bigger deal then you think.

Are you ever interrupted by outdoor lights?

If you’re ever interrupted by outdoor lights in the room in which you sleep, then blackout curtains can improve your sleep more than you may realize. You may think that you’ve gotten used to the streetlight that lets in a little light under your curtains, or the sun rising well before your alarm goes off, but study after study has shown that light creeping in may not wake you up but it can make it harder to sleep as deeply as you would in the dark.

Just ask the sleep experts

You’d be hard pressed to find a sleep expert that wouldn’t recommend blackout curtains. They claim that the way to get the longest and the best sleep is to sleep in a room that’s dark, that eliminates light coming in from lights on the street, cars driving by, or any other type of light pollution that could affect sleep.

It’s harder to sleep through light as we age

The older a person gets, the more light and sound they process even when they’re asleep. This can lead to an inability to fall asleep or trouble staying asleep. As a result, as a person gets older, they may have more and more of a need for solid blackout curtains or other blackout draperies.

Some homeowners simply prefer blackout curtains

Of course, sleeping well isn’t the only reason that homeowners consider blackout curtains. Some have a home theater, or simply a living room in which they watch television, and they want blackout curtains to offer a theater-like atmosphere.
Whether you’re a shift worker who sleeps a lot during the day, a 9-5 office worker who sleeps when the sun is down but lives in a well-lit area, or a parent who wants their child to be able to nap during the day, blackout curtains could change your life. The good news is that while there used to be a real lack of patterns, styles, and fabrics, today Half Price Drapes offers hundreds of combinations in black out drapes. In fact, you can even have them custom made to exactly meet your needs.

Why Are Designers Recommending Roman Shades to Their Clients?

At Half Price Drapes we’re always keeping up on the latest in drapery trends. After all, it’s our business! Lately we’ve seen a lot of designers recommending Roman shades to their clients. We love these and other types of shades, so we’re on board, but we’ve also been wondering: Why are we suddenly seeing more sales in this arena? In the process of answering this question, we found out some interesting facts about Roman shades.

The origin of Roman shades

As you may have guessed, Roman shades come from ancient Rome. At the famous Roman Coliseum, shades were installed that could be spread over the seats to keep visitors safe from the hot, bright sun. Roman shades can be opened and closed within their own pleated sections. They’re so versatile that we’re not surprised they’ve survived thousands of years of changing trends in window treatments.

Roman shades aren’t your typical shades

We offer several types of shades, including our popular cordless cellular shades, but Roman shades are truly unique compared to other shades and window treatments. The most noticeable difference is that when you pull them up, they stack. The front of these shades are made entirely of fabric and they will gather or fold as they’re drawn up. When you put them side by side with blinds, the fabric used in Roman shades is better at blocking the sun on hot days and better at keeping in the heat on cold days.

There are many different looks available with these shades

Depending on the type of fabric you choose and the color or pattern selected, Roman shades can be subdued or they can be incredibly bold. Some of our clients use them in conjunction with drapes, curtains or other window treatments. The fact that there are so many options is just one of the reasons these shades are so popular.

Roman shades can be used in any room of the house

Since there are so many fabric and color options, Roman shades can be installed successfully in any room. From a child’s room to a formal dining room, the right fabric will fit anywhere. Popular choices for these shades include cotton and linen, and the colors chosen are most commonly solid colors or bold stripes. When you shop with Half Price Drapes, you can choose the color or pattern that will work best for your home!

Have You Heard About the First Retrofit Smart System for Curtains?

You’ve likely heard of curtains that work automatically. They may require you to push a button on a remote control, or a button on the wall, but they can be opened and closed without getting up and going across the room. While these may seem cool at first, there are a couple of issues with them: they’re expensive and you don’t have many options in the style or fabric of the curtains you get. A new company could be changing that for good.

This new product would work on any curtains – including the ones hung in your home right now

The best thing about this option to automate curtains is that it works on any curtains. If you’ve recently bought new drapes, then you wouldn’t have to go out and buy entirely new curtains. If you’re thinking of investing in new curtains, then you could check out the huge, affordable variety at Half Price Drapes and simply add this new automation system to the curtains you pick.

The way it works is pretty simple

You need one unit for every set of horizontal curtains you have. You then use an app on your phone to either immediately close or open the curtains, or to schedule them to open at a certain time. You can use the same network for up to 20 pairs of curtains – assuming you have a unit for each one – and have them open or close together or separately.
The way it works is that the component is installed behind your curtains, at either end of your curtain rod and in the middle hook. There’s then a wire that goes from the sides to the middle and physically pulls the curtains open or pushes them closed when you tell it to.

Unique ways this technology could be used

Of course this type of automation could be used to take care of curtains anytime you just don’t feel like getting up, but there are a lot of additional uses we can see too. For example, a handicapped person who can’t reach the curtain rod would now have a way to open and close the curtains themselves. Likewise, those curtains that are well out of your reach? For example, above a doorway? You can easily open and close them. Finally, consider how amazing of an alarm clock it would be – just tell it to open your curtains wide at 8 AM and you’ll be woken by the sun.

How to Add Pantone’s Color of the Year to Your Home

The news is out and it’s exciting: Pantone’s color of the year for 2017 is greenery. This is a shade of green that’s bright, cheerful, and warm. It brings to mind new beginnings – which is what the new year’s all about. If you want to incorporate it into your home, there’s no reason to get out the paint bucket and change your entire décor. Just use these ideas to bring it into your home in beautiful ways.

Get new pillows – or pillow covers – for your couch

Greenery fits in with a lot of different color schemes. If you think it would work in your living room, resist the urge to go out and buy brand new pillows. Instead, just buy pillow covers. Half Price Drapes offers them in pairs and you’ll be impressed both with our affordable prices and the quality pillows available to you.

Buy a new lamp

Adding a new lamp to a room, or replacing an existing lamp, is a great way to bring in color without making a major investment. If you love the lamp you have, then you might even consider buying just a new lampshade that incorporates greenery. This allows you to hold on to what you like while still bringing in a new color.

Invest in new green curtains

Curtains are an affordable option to update any room, and they offer a ton of benefits including increasing energy efficiency, protecting against allergens, and more. We’re proud to offer almost 40 different options in green curtains. Choose from several different headers, a wide range of patterns, different shades of green, and different fabrics. If you don’t find exactly what you want, you can even order custom curtains.

Find a new piece of art

It’s always a great time to buy a new piece of art, but this is even more true when it comes to incorporating a color into your room. This is especially true for homeowners who don’t feel that green would really work with their decor. What you can do is buy a piece of art that incorporates the colors already in a room, but also includes elements of greenery. This will allow you to add other touches of green throughout the room and draw them in together.
Most people don’t want to totally redesign their homes based on a trend, but adding a few splashes of this lovely color certainly couldn’t hurt!
